Choral singing has an important role in Latvian society. Music friends from all over the world have heard about famous All - Latvian Song Festivals.
Riga choir has made significant contribution in Latvian culture and Education. Gunta Malevica is the chief conductor of Riga choir since 1983. The choir gives concerts at the most prominent concert halls of Latvia, such as the Latvian Philharmonic, the Dome Cathedral, and Wagner Hall and has performances on the TV and radio of Latvia. It consists of more than 100 singers in different groups; 3 - 28 years of age.
Singers start to sing in preparatory groups at the age of 3 - 6. Then they follow to the main concert group at the age of 10 - 16. By the age of 16 the young singers are members of the girls choir, but after age of 16 the young ladies (age of 16 – 30) become participants of the Riga Chamber choir.
Riga Choir has several years of good work experience with many cultural organizations of Europe and U.S., particularly with Europa Cantat.
