In compliance with Lingua 1 objectives the project “Open to Every Citizen” responds to the following areas:
Raising awareness of the advantages of language learning; providing project participants with an opportunity to feel the taste of the target language in its natural environment;
Which happens to be four-folded:
Language promoter + Choir conductor introduce a
song to Choir singers who, in the beginning,
become language learners and later develop themselves into
language teachers.
Choir singers are the real Language promoters introducing a language both to the Local public and to the Foreign public.
Choir members are expected to be deprived of their usual position while singing, i.e. standing still in rows, but communicate with the audience: come up to them, say several words or phrases in the language they are promoting, try to explain the meaning of the words said either with the help of gestures or pointing at the illustrations of the songs in the booklets.
Furthermore, each partner institution has their own target group or groups and decide upon their integration into the process of language teaching-learning individually.

Target group(s)
Motivating individuals to learn six target languages:
- Lithuanian
- Latvian
- Estonian
- English
- Italian
- Spanish
The choir singers become to be the first to learn the peculiarities of each target language. They have to complete a special task of performing 18 songs in 6 target languages and, further, they develop themselves into a tool to disseminate these languages in the shape of a song to the general public at concerts, that, naturally, involve a big number of the audience, perceiving a foreign language in a more passive way. The choir exchange visits is part of the communicative approach when people are provided with an opportunity of being brought to a new linguistic environment. The main goal of the visits is not only to develop real-life survival competence in listening and speaking but also let people feel strongly about their national identity.
Providing information on language learning possibilities to every citizen
The Lingua 1 project “Open to Every Citizen” aims at exposing six languages, both widely and less spoken to the public of Vilnius, Riga, Tartu, Surrey, Arezzo and Laguna at large. Furthermore, we intend to help to a number of targeted disadvantaged young people, providing them with some language learning tips and directing their steps towards language resource centres.
